(PHOENIX – June 16, 2017) Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council (GSACPC) is pleased to announce Gordon Lewis was one of three adult volunteers who were recently honored with the Thanks Badge, the highest honor in Girl Scouting. This award is given to an adult Girl Scout member whose ongoing commitment, leadership and service have had an exceptional impact on the goals and mission of the entire Council. The criteria for these awards is established by Girl Scouts of the USA and are nationally recognized.
Gordon Lewis is a Partner at Jones, Skelton & Hochuli, P.L.C. and a member of the board of the GSACPC, where he has served, for the last eight years, as both a member-at-large and in a non-officer position on the Executive Committee. He also chairs the personnel committee and has served on other committees and task-forces.
Lewis is highly respected for his ability to effectively analyze complex topics and clearly communicate his thoughts to the board and staff. His thoughtful leadership on issues around financial stewardship, diversity and employment decisions have greatly benefited the organization. Not only has he provided his professional expertise, but has integrated that with a deep understanding of the mission and values of Girl Scouting. His input and analysis during the decision-making process around embarking on an 18-million-dollar capital campaign were particularly valuable and a key factor in the approval of the campaign.
In April, Lewis was elected to serve another three-year term as Secretary of the board’s Executive Committee.
GSACPC holds a special recognition ceremony each year to honor the volunteers who are nominated by their peers and selected by the nominating committee. This year, the ceremony was held at GSACPC’s newest facility, The Bob & Renee Parsons Leadership Center for Girls and Women at Camp South Mountain. This new campus is the result of the successful 18-million-dollar capital campaign in which Lewis played a pivotal role.
